Buck is sold and transported from Cali to Seattle- then north to The Yukon

Man in red sweater (red=symbol for blood) beats Buck with club- he “breaks in” the new dogs to teach them to obey

Sold finally to Francois and Perrault for $300- they are Canadian mail carriers- good owners

Buck, Dave, Curly=friendly dogs together

1984 PART 1 CHAPTER 1

  • 13:00- military time
  • Victory mansions- where he lives- ironic, they’re in a war

  • BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU posters everywhere

  • Dirty landscape, crappy apartment, broken elevator

  • Electricity turned off during day to save $$

  • UNIFORMS- blue for outer party, black for inner party

  • THOUGHT POLICE- watch/hear you through TELESCREEN 24/7—HELICOPTER SPIES IN WINDOWS

  • MIN OF TRUTH- where Winston works-3000 rooms- news, entertainment, education, fine arts—THE MEDIA- they create/delete the news—create propaganda

  • Rotting houses, big beautiful Min of Truth

Min TRUTH=actually creates lies
Min PEACE= actually deals with war/defense dept
Min LOVE=actually jail/punishment---where you go to love the govt-brainwashing
Min PLENTY- economic affairs, convince country they aren’t in DEBT

The Senate

-100- 2 from each state

First senate session in 1789 had only 22 members

-Senators serve for 6 years—no max amount of years- one senator served 50 years

Senate is a CONTINUOS BODY-always changing, everyone’s term ends at different times

CONTINUENCIES-the people and interests the senators represent

**Usually a job you hold before presidency

Requirements: 30 years old, citizen of US for at least 9 years, must live in state where you’re elected

NH- DEMOCRAT- Jeanne Shaheen

MEMBERS OF CONGRESS

535 members, average member is white male in early 50s

NH- Republican-Kelly Ayotte

Out of 535 members-in 2005- 42 African Americans, 24 Hispanics, 5 Asian Americans, ONE Native American in HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

SENATE- one AfriAmer, 2 hispanics, one asian, one native hawaiin

Nearly all are married, 2 children average, 60% protestant, 30% roman catholic, 6% jewish, 4% no affiliation.
