peaceful protest inspired community into action

1957- Civil Rights Act passed
JFK helped MLK get out of jail ($$ and votes in mind)
1963 MARCH ON WA, 250,000 peaceful marchers

DREAM SPEECH
11/22/1963- JFK assassinated, day after he called on
Congress for civil rights push
MS Burning- burning of a church by white supremacists,
killed 3 Northern students (there to help register black voters)—Johnson and Hoover initially tried to
cover it up until bodies were found
