  1. We will watch a short video about Holocaust survivors who hid underground for 511 DAYS. What would you take to survive that long? Write a one paragraph response.


  1. We will be outside for part of the class experiencing some of the conditions and feelings the prisoners dealt with during their time in camp. Imagine being completely shocked and removed from your home, forced to walk barefoot in the snow, in perfect cadence, without food. It’s truly horrifying. Look at your surroundings. What natural items could you use to your benefit if you had to spend time hiding and surviving out here? Write a one paragraph response.


  1. What would be the most challenging parts of isolation and hiding for you if this happened in modern times? Write a two paragraph response.



  1. Make a one page collage/poster that highlights and represents the story NIGHT. What images and quotes will you include?

1) How does Nick meet Tom's mistress?
2) Describe George Wilson. How does he react to Tom's arrival?
3) How does Myrtle behave as the party progresses?
4) Describe the setting of the valley of ashes where George and Myrtle live. What aspects of the setting imply that it is intended to have a symbolic meaning as well as a literal one?
5) How does the author describe Myrtle Wilson? Does her physical appearance reflect her character in any way?
6) Compare the setting of the party in this chapter with the setting of the party in Chapter One. What does this reveal about the characters and their personalities?
