Civil Rights Movement- fight for freedom and uquality

Rosa Parks- refused to move on bus, arrested,member of NAACP, seamstress

            -her peaceful protest inspired community into action

            -BUS BOYCOTT

Boycott was headed by young Baptist minister MLK

GOAL= PASSIVE RESISTANCE (Ghandi)

1957- Civil Rights Act passed

JFK helped MLK get out of jail ($$ and votes in mind)

1963 MARCH ON WA, 250,000 peaceful marchers

            -I HAVE A DREAM SPEECH

11/22/1963- JFK assassinated, day after he called on Congress for civil rights push

MS Burning- burning of a church by white supremacists, killed 3 Northern students (there to help register black voters)—Johnson and Hoover initially tried to cover it up until bodies were found
