Execute the law- preserve,
protect, defend the Constitution-Oath of
Office
Executive Orders-a rule, directive, or regulation that has the power/effect of law. **Ordinance power
Appointment Power-President can choose/name a handful of employees.

-Cabinet members and their aides
-Heads of agencies- EPA, NASA
-federal
judges, U.S.
marshals, attorneys
-Officers of armed forces
--President picks, name is
sent to Senate, they vote for approval

**Removal Power- can fire people he appoints
Diplomatic and Military Powers
*Make treaties-formal agreement between 2+
sovereign states- require Senate consent/approval
*Make executive agreements-don’t

*Power of Recognition- sending ambassadors to
other countries, acknowledging their place in the world
-revoked=persona non grata- unwelcome person
*Commander in Chief-“almost
without limit”
-give power to their subordinates

*Make undeclared war

President must report to Congress within 48 hours after committing troops to
combat abroad
(2)
Combat commitment must end within 60 days, unless Congress agrees to longer
(3)
Congress can end combat commitment at any time
LEGISLATIVE POWERS
President can influence
actions of Congress, recommend Legislation for welfare of the country
THE VETO POWERRRRRRRR
President can sign a law, or
reject it!-Congress can override his veto by a 2/3s vote in both Repub and Dem
chambers
